Toyota Vios sedan likely to be launched by early 2016 in India


Toyota will launch the new Vios sedan in the Indian car market by early next year; to get 1.4-litre D-4D diesel and 1.5-litre VVT-i petrol engine.

Toyota, the Japanese automaker will launch three new cars in the Indian auto industry in 2016. The company will introduce the new Innova, Fortuner and the Vios saloon in the country next year. All three models are likely to be unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show. Here we will talk about the Vios sedan, which is expected to be launched by the second half of 2016. The company has already started testing the sedan on Indian roads.


Toyota will launch the Vios sedan to take on the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and others in the league. This means that the mid-sized will be priced under Rs. 10 lakh mark, and will be positioned between the Etios sedan and the Corolla Altis. Based on the Yaris hatchback, the Vios saloon will come with quality and spacious interiors. Dimensionally, the sedan measures 4,410mm in length, 1,700mm in width and 1,475mm in height, and has a large wheelbase of 2,250mm. It is expected to get a ground clearance of around 160mm, which is good enough to tackle Indian road conditions.

The Toyota Vios sedan will be offered in two engine options. The petrol version is likely to get a 1.5-litre VVT-i engine that is good for 107bhp of power and 141Nm of torque, while the oil burner is likely to be the same 88PS, 1.4-litre D-4D engine that also powers the Etios. Both manual and automatic transmission version will be on offer.

Ford plans to launch Mustang in India


Ford India has plans to launch at least four new products this year in different segments. Besides launching the new-generation Ford Figo, Figo Aspire sub-compact sedan and the new-gen Endeavour, the company is planning to bring its iconic sportscar - the Mustang - to India.
The India-bound Ford Mustang model will go through many changes when compared to the global one. The most important one of those will the right-hand drive steering system, which has never happened before in the history of Mustang. The Indian version of the Mustang will also, for the first time, will have independent rear suspension. Interestingly, the Indian Mustang will power a 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine, which was last seen in the third-generation model of the car.
Ford India will launch the Mustang in three engine options - a 2.3-litre EcoBoost, 4-cylinder (305bhp, 406Nm), a 3.7 V6 (300bhp, 365Nm) and a 5.0-litre V8 (420bhp, 528Nm). All the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes.
Though the company hasn't revealed the pricing details yet, we expect it to be priced around R
s.
 50 lakh.

Honda BR-V SUV unveiled


Honda has unveiled the new BR-V at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2015. The new SUV will first go on sale in Indonesia, and then will head to India sometime next year. The new Honda BR-V comes in a seven-seat configuration and will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport.  
Sporting a squarish look up front, the SUV gets a chrome-laden grille and new headlamps that have projector beams and chrome inserts. The front bumper is new and gets a wider air dam and two chrome-ringed fog lamps as well. A matte silver faux skid plate is also seen at the lower end of the bumper. 


From the side, the BR-V bears resemblance to the Mobilio MPV thanks to similar-looking doors and window-line, but comes with additional ground clearance along with 16-inch alloy wheels. The BR-V also gets roof-rails and additional body cladding on the doors, to give it a proper SUV look. The rear styling of the BR-V is a clean departure from the Mobilio’s rear. The tailgate does not get a mounted spare wheel; it features large LED tail-lamps which are connected via a thin strip.

As predicted by us earlier, the Honda BR-V does get a completely unique dashboard design. This new dashboard is more in line with the upmarket Honda City sedan and the Jazz rather than the Brio, Amaze and Mobilio. It gets a dual-tone layout where the top half gets a darker shade with a silver border separating it from the lighter bottom half. In addition to the AC vents that are similar to the City, the BR-V also gets the City's infotainment system and touchscreen HVAC controls. The instrument binnacle is also identical to the Honda City with three circular units. However, the BR-V is likely to use the same steering wheel with mounted controls as seen on the Mobilio and Amaze. It also gets separate AC vents for the second row passengers. 


The Honda BR-V for Indonesia comes with a 120bhp 1.5-litre petrol motor mated to either a six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. For India, the diesel engine is likely to get a bump in power. On the safety front, the BR-V gets dual front airbags, ABS and EBD along with the Vehicle Stability Assist system. We expect Honda to unveil the India-spec BR-V at the Auto Expo 2016 to be held in Delhi early next year. 


New 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport unofficially unvealed

Mitsubishi, the Japanese automaker is all set to globally unveil the 2016 edition of its popular SUV Pajero Sport tomorrow. Slated to be introduced 2015 Bangkok Big Motor Sale, the all-new Pajero Sport comes with some major design changes and cosmetic addition. Now before the global unveiling some new information has surfaced giving us details regarding the price and variants of the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

According to reports the 2016 Pajero Sport will be offered in three variants 2.4 GLS, 2.4 GT and 2.4 GT AWD. Reportedly Mitsubishi has priced the GLS variant at THB 1.13 million (INR 20.74 lakh), the GT variant at THB 1.25 million (INR 22.77 lakh) and the range-topping GT AWD at THB 1.45 million (INR 26.41 Lakh).

As for the information we are aware of, the 2016 Pajero Sport speaks a whole new design language and is based on the company’s Dynamic Shield design. Based on Mitsubishi’s famous pick-up truck fifth-generation Triton, the new Pajero Sport uses the same ladder-frame chassis that underpins the latter. The front fascia is fashioned with stylish projector headlamps with L-shaped LED daytime running lights and an X-shaped chrome grille. Additionally the new wide airdam and sporty front bumpers that house the foglamps adds to the new Pajero Sport’s aggressiveness.


The new changes made to the design can be quite evidently seen from the SUV’s side profile. You’ll notice some new changes like a well-defining bodyline, bumpy wheel arches and some new sleeker window panes. Towards the rear you’ll vertically-oriented taillight enclosures with an arrow-like design kink, a rectangular windscreen and a chrome enclosure for the registration plate holder.


Under the hood the next generation 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be powered by a new 2.4-litre four-cylinder MIVEC diesel engine that can delivers 181 PS of power and 430 Nm of torque. The transmission duties on the other hand will be taken care of by a 6-speed automatic gearbox alongside a 6-speed manual transmission.

As for the India-bound model, it is quite likely that Mitsubishi will introduce the new Pajero Sport at the 2016 Indian Auto Show in Delhi early next year. Upon its launch the 2016 Pajero Sport will go up against the like of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Ssangyong Rexton and the upcoming Chevrolet Trailblazer.

New Volkswagen Passat expected by February 2016


Volkswagen's new Passat or B8 is likely to come to India only by February 2016. Earlier rumoured to have been dropped from the list of new models altogether, senior Volkswagen spokesmen, however, made it clear that the project is still very much alive.

"We are working hard to get the car to the Indian market, but there's still a lot to be done." The right-hand-drive cars need to go through the process of homologation and VW is likely to want a more affordable Bharat Stage IV (Euro IV) version of the new 187bhp 2.0-litre TDI as well. This is because the Euro V version will have plenty of expensive hardware that VW will want to delete on the Indian car.


There are other factors that could also potentially delay the process. VW is keen on increasing the assembling process of the new Passat sedan in India, compared to what it was for the earlier model, but is likely to wait for a plant upgrade, which is expected to happen later on in the year. And then there's the fact that that global demand for the new car is huge, meaning VW India will have to fight to get some cars or kits allotted for the Indian market.

Despite the difficulties involved, VW India is keen to get this car here. While the earlier Passat was only a moderate success, Volkswagen seem pretty confident that the new B8 will fit in. A lot of this has got to do with how the car has changed. While the Passat has always been a very practical car that was big on the inside, big on comfort and big on value, the new car is big on luxury too. And that's just right for the Indian market. There's more bling in the design of the exterior, the insides are much better appointed, and VW has also upped the ante on technology and connectivity.


What's also likely to be a challenge is the fact that it is likely to compete with compact sedans from Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Both the CLA and A3 are likely to cost a bit less than the new Passat in India, and could make life difficult for VW as Indian car buyers seem keen on luxury brands. And then there's the C-class, A4 and the BMW 3 that will be within striking range too; especially with the Passat prices likely to start around the Rs 35-lakh mark.   

The new Passat may have been made more spacious, comfortable and luxurious for Chinese customers, but Indian car buyers are likely to enjoy these benefits too. Question is, will Indian car buyers be willing to pay upwards of Rs 35 lakh for it? 

2015 Toyota LandCruiser revealed


Toyota has revealed a new-look LandCruiser ahead of its local debut in October.The rugged machine benefits from new safety technology, upgraded engines and revised styling inside and out.Toyota's facelift includes bluff new styling that brings it into line with SUVs such as the Kluger and Fortuner. A hexagonal grille, set-back headlamps and heavily sculpted bonnet will make the car unmistakable off the beaten track.




The model's popular twin-turbo diesel V8 has come in for changes that lift power by 5kW to 200kW and reduce fuel economy to 9.5L/100km, though its peak torque  remains unchanged at 650Nm.The 4.6-litre V8 petrol engine alternative retains its 227kW and 439Nm outputs, tough Toyota says its fuel economy will be sharpened by the time the car arrives in Australia.Both motors drive all four wheels through six-speed automatic transmissions.

A revised cabin includes new padding on touch points, along with regrouped controls, additional storage, and a larger 9.0-inch display screen for high grades that also features a new instrument cluster home to a 4.2-inch TFT driver display.
Available with seating for five, seven or eight passengers, the new LandCruiser is crowned by a top-end Sahara version that now includes a front radar and front camera with forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking capabilities along with active cruise control and automatic high beams.
The latest LandCruiser 200 Series is one of four rough and ready machines set to bolster Toyota's position at the top of the sales charts this year.The iconic off-roader will join upgraded versions of the Prado four-wheel-driveand HiLux ute as well as the brand's new Fortuner SUV in showrooms before the end of the year.Toyota will confirm full pricing and specifications for the LandCruiser closer to its launch date.

New Ford Endeavour to be launched by next year


The Ford Endeavour generated quite a fan following when it was launched in India over 10 years ago. It was big, brash, and really quite American! It was however, a little rough around the edges. And, a few years later, when the Toyota Fortuner was introduced it didn't stand a chance frankly.
But this is an all-new model. In the rest of the Asia Pacific region, it's known as the Everest, but Ford wasn't able to trademark that name in India so it'll continue to be called the Endeavour when it's launched at the Auto Expo next year - if not even slightly sooner, perhaps in January 2016.
The first thing that strikes you when you set eyes on the new Endeavour is that it looks really good. And you can be sure that it's still as imposing as its predecessor. The trapezoidal grille that makes up the Ford family face finds its way onto this butch SUV, and it's actually quite nicely executed in this avatar. In profile, it's a bit more sedate but still adequately muscular with bulging wheel arches and large wheels. The front fender also proudly states which engine and gearbox you have under the hood. The number of gears, of course, is a constant - since both the manual and automatic versions come with six-speed transmissions.

We only got to sample the automatic, which is Ford's 6R80 box that's shared with the F-series range of trucks. Don't forget, the F-150 pick up is the best selling vehicle in the United States. So it doesn't come as a surprise that the gearbox responds quite well. Moreover, the Ford engineers tell us that the transmission will learn your driving habits within an hour of you being behind the wheel - and then adapt the way it shifts to suit your driving style. Unfortunately, we didn't get quite that much uninterrupted time in the car so I can't confirm their claim. Suffice to say that the gearbox was quick to respond when shifting manually in Sport mode. In fact, I would even have liked paddles behind the steering wheel to change gears.

Now before you think that I've gone completely bonkers demanding steering mounted paddles on a machine that weighs two-tonnes, has a ladder-frame chassis, and a solid rear axle, remember that this is a Ford - and Fords are known for their impressive driving dynamics. So, while the previous Endeavour may have been an anomaly in that respect, this one more than makes up for it.


The driving position is spot on, despite the fact that the steering wheel is only height adjustable - and doesn't adjust for reach. The wheel itself is a nice sporty three-spoke wheel that feels great to hold. Plus, it has buttons for every possible application you can think of. The instrument cluster consists of an analogue speedometer with two TFT screens on either side. One displays the entertainment options, mirroring the 8-inch touchscreen on the centre console, while the other provides useful information such as fuel, temperature, mileage, etc. It also provides very useful off-road information, such as angle of roll, pitch, and even the amount the front wheels are turned - much like a Land Rover would in fact. And the similarities to a brand that Ford once owned don't end there. Ford's Terrain Management System is strikingly similar to Land Rover's Terrain Response System.


The Ford system provides various modes, which themselves are very similar to what you would find on a Range Rover for instance - Normal; Snow, Mud, Grass; Sand; and Rock. The four-wheel Endeavour also comes with Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, an active transfer case with a low range gearbox, and an electronically locking rear differential. It also has a ride height of 225mm, a wading depth of 800mm, approach and departure angles of 29-degrees and a ramp-over angle of 21-degrees. So, if there's serious off-roading on your agenda, then the Endeavour will serve you very well indeed.
Ford had charted out an off-road trail in the foothills just above the paddy fields of Chang Rai in Northern Thailand to give us a taste of just what the Endeavour is capable of. I suppose it would have been a challenge for lesser SUV's. The Endeavour, however, didn't even break a sweat. On occasion, it showed off its suspension articulation. But, from within the cabin, you wouldn't have known it because it felt completely composed and supremely serine.

And if it's serenity you're after, you've come to the right place. On the road, it was even more composed. We first sampled the 3.2 litre Duratorq five-cylinder turbo-diesel, which produces 190 horsepower and 470Nm of torque. And the first thing that strikes you is just how silent it is inside the cabin. To achieve this, Ford has employed what it calls Active Noise Cancellation. This system uses mikes in the cabin to gauge engine noise, which signals the Active Noise Cancelling control module that then generates opposing sound waves that are transmitted through the speaker system. It works very much like a pair of Bose Noise Cancelling headphones - and I have to say, much to my surprise, it does actually work.
Overall levels of refinement, in fact, are really quite good. There's even a leather-stitched dashboard on the higher models. On the whole, the cabin is clean and uncluttered. It is littered with 12-volt power sockets however, which are actually quite useful. The Titanium variant even has a 230-volt plug point in the second row. It also gets a power folding third row and rear tailgate. So, clearly Ford is providing the impression that the new Endeavour is quite an upmarket machine. The Sync 2 touch-screen infotainment system is very easy to use, but the voice-activation is as frustrating as ever. Considering that all the controls are within easy reach of the driver however, you don't have cause to complain too much.

But back to the 3.2 litre engine, which is strong and smooth. It's quite punchy at low rpm, and really comes on song at 2,000rpm. But it runs out of grunt quite quickly past 4,000rpm. The 2.2 litre, four-cylinder Duratorq four cylinder turbo-diesel, meanwhile, isn't quite as impressive. The numbers aren't bad - 158bhp and 185Nm - but it just doesn't seem to translate on the road. It feels a little lacking in grunt, since it's missing that satisfying surge of power at low speed. Once past 2,000rpm though, it does come on song. So, it gets the job done - but not quite effortlessly as its bigger brother. Moreover, engine noise isn't quite as well insulated and you do feel slight vibrations through the throttle pedal at high rpm.


The standout characteristic of the Endeavour, however, is the ride quality. Even fitted with 20-inch wheels (the 2.2 litre engine comes with 18-inch rims), the Endeavour comfortably dismisses potholes in its wake. Even in the rear seat, it has none of that shake, rattle and roll that you'd expect in a ladder frame SUV - and that you get in a Fortuner for instance!
Handling and driving dynamics is something that we didn't quite get to test to the fullest, but initial impressions are quite good. The electronic power steering is impressive. At parking speeds it's light, while on the move it weighs up nicely - and it's progressive and direct. Body roll is well controlled and the Endeavour goes exactly where you point it. In fact, it feels like a monocoque from behind the wheel - which is a good thing. On the whole, this is an extremely refined and highly capable full-size SUV.
This Endeavour will be positioned squarely against the next generation Toyota Fortuner when it's launched early next year. Fortunately for Ford, it's at least a few generations improved from the last one. The only trouble the company will have is convincing customers that it can be as trouble-free and economical to maintain as the best from the Toyota stable. The company is working very hard to ensure that it's after sales quality is on par with its product quality, but that's a process that takes time. If they can revamp their image as successfully as they've done with this product, then they've clearly got a winner on their hands.

2016 Toyota Fortuner unveiled


Toyota revealed the new Fortuner in Australia with a launch date set for the end of October. However, the SUV will arrive in India next year - at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Toyota will now offer the Fortuner in Australia with its new 2.8-litre direct-injection 4-cylinder turbo-diesel unit.


As far as transmission options on the new Toyota Fortuner are concerned, it will get a choice of a new 6-speed manual along with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The manual gearbox features 'intelligent' technology that promises smoother shifting by matching engine speed to transmission speed. The SUV also sports a part-time 4x4 system that can be accessed via a dial.
To be offered in 3 grades, namely, GX, GXL and Crusade, which will come fitted with trailer sway control, front and rear air-conditioning, large touchscreen audio displays, Toyota Link connected mobility, side steps, 17 or 18-inch wheels, disc brakes front and rear, and an air-conditioned compartment that helps keep drinks and food warm or cold.


While roof rails, fog-lamps, reverse parking sensors, keyless smart entry and start, and downhill assist control have been reserved for the GXL and Crusade trims, bi-LED head-lamps and LED daytime running lamps, a power back door and 18-inch alloys with highway tyres are available only on the Crusade grade.

Creta makes best start with 6,783 units sale in first month

In its very first month of launch, Hyundai Creta has notched up sales of 6,783 units - the best start ever for an SUV in India.



Creta's main competitors like Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano witnessed sales of 1194 units, 4715 units and 3079 units respectively in their first month. The car also outsold India's largest selling SUV for almost a decade Mahindra Bolero in July taking over the leadership position in the category. Last month was the first time since 2010 that Bolero finds itself outside of the top 10 in the domestic market.


With bookings of over 27,000 units and a waiting period stretching upto 4 months for some variants, Hyundai is ramping up production at its Chennai factory to produce 7500 units of the SUV per month.
"We have got just the kind of started we were aspiring for with the Creta," said Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. "We advanced the launch of the car from September to July as we wanted to take the initiative. Now our problem is to make enough cars and keep the waiting period in check. The customer is very demanding in this segment." 

Renault Kwid expected to be launched by this month

Renault has unveiled a hatchback-based crossover called the KWID. Named after the concept car that it unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, the KWID, is a five-seater crossover underpinned by the French automaker’s CMFA platform and will be produced at their Chennai factory with 98 per cent localisation.


The Renault KWID has lines similar to that of the Datsun GO but now gets body cladding, flared wheel arches and a forward leaning stance giving it a muscular appearance. It is the first car in the Indian market to debut the French automaker’s honeycomb grille and new headlight design. It gets an aggressive front bumper design that extends outwards and in the top spec variants houses the fog lamps.
The side profile reveals the heavily flared wheel arches and forward leaning stance. The windscreen sharply rakes towards the rear. There is plastic cladding at the base of the doors which are the colour of the wheel arches and basically serve the purpose of rub rails.
At the rear, the glass section is small and slopes forward while there is a sharp lip on the middle of the boot door. The plastic cladding sits right below the boot door and houses the number plate. Renault has given the KWID a small spoiler which we believe will be standard across all variants.

The KWID appears to have the same interior from the Pulse which is basically the layout of the Nissan Micra. However, while the layout is the same, the feature list will have many first in segment items. It gets a fully digital instrumental cluster, Media-NAV infotainment system, front power windows and AC. While the instrument cluster, power windows and AC are expected to be standard across all variants, we believe that the Media-NAV infotainment system will only be offered in the top-spec variants.


The engine is expected to be an 800cc three-cylinder unit that will produce around 50bhp and 90Nm of torque. Power will go to the front wheels via a five-speed manual. We also believe that this car is likely to debut an AMT from the Renault-Nissan stable. There will be no diesel model but a 1.0-litre model with higher power figures will arrive six months later. It is also possible that there may be a CNG model but this will only materialise based on demand.


The KWID is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh and will compete with the Chevrolet Spark, Tata Nano, Datsun Go and the Hyundai Eon. It will be launched during the festive season and most likely with an introductory price.

2015 Mahindra Thar Facelift Launched

Mahindra & Mahindra, the home-grown automaker, has finally launched the 2015 Thar facelift at Rs. 8.03 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom Nasik) in the country. The aforementioned price is of CRDe model, which would available across Mahindra dealerships in select markets, with immediate effect. The new off-roader comes with several cosmetic upgrades over the outgoing model.


Talking about the exterior changes, the 2015 Mahindra Thar facelift comes with new front & rear bumpers, restyled wheel arches, clear lens headlamps, redesigned tubular side footsteps and a revamped canopy. Inside the cabin, there is a new black-beige dashboard, wider and larger seats, a redesigned center bezel, new sporty 3-pod instrument cluster, new steering wheel and gear knob, redesigned AC vents, new windshield demister and door trims. Additionally, there comes a new lockable glove box and a new floor console with cup holders.


Speaking at the launch of the New Thar CRDe, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive, (Automotive) Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, said, “Since its launch, the Thar has been the face of our tough and rugged DNA, a continuation of our legacy and what Mahindra stands for. Today as we launch the new avatar of this ever popular off-roader, the effort has been to enhance the appeal of a brand that is already a cult. Increasingly consumers are looking for a different lifestyle as they seek an adventure and fun experience and the Thar is the perfect companion for such thrill seekers. I am confident that in its new avatar, the Thar CRDe will not only continue to be ever popular among off-road enthusiasts but significantly widen its appeal amongst a whole new set of consumers.”


Mechanically, the Thar facelift retains its 2500cc CRDe diesel motor which develops 105bhp of top power at 3800rpm. This motor churns out a peak torque of 247Nm between 1800-2000 rpm, while mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The off-roader would be offered in both 4X2 and 4X4 avatars. In addition, the 2015 Mahindra Thar now gets an auto-engaging differential lock for the rear axle. Just so you know, Mahindra Thar was firstly launched in 2010 and it is the first major upgrade for the hardcore off-roader since its launch.


Chevrolet plans to launch a Beat based compact sedan in India

Chevrolet plans to introduce a compact sedan in India, which would be based on the Beat hatchback. Now, it has been learnt that Beat-based GM sedan would debut in 2017 and currently, it is under development. It is also known through sources that the next-generation Beat hatchback, specifically for India, is in works. Just so you know, General Motors recently held the world premiere of all-new Spark (Beat in India), but it won't head to India.


The next-gen Beat would be a completely restyled version of the current car. The reason, which propelled the company to not bring the all-new Spark (Beat) in India, seems to be cost issues as our country is a highly cost-sensitive market. Hence, the American automajor decided to give the India-spec model a heavy facelift, instead of bringing the all-new Spark (Beat). The new Chevrolet compact sedan would be based on next-gen of India-spec Beat, and the exterior styling would be quite identical. Though, for global markets, both the next-gen Beat and compact sedan based on it, are expected to share several elements with the all-new Spark.


Mechanically, the new Beat-based compact sedan would be introduced in both petrol and diesel guises. The sedan would be powered by a set of 1.0L, 3-cylinder petrol and diesel motors. The same set of petrol and diesel engines would also do duties to the next-gen Beat hatchback. For those asking, the 1.0L, 3-pot diesel mill is new to India, while the petrol engine is a down-sized version of company's existing 1.4L, 4-cylinder, Ecotech motor. The aforesaid petrol engine is on offer with all-new Spark (Beat). Chevrolet's compact sedan would join the crowded sub 4-meter sedan segment which currently has Maruti Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, and Tata Zest. In addition, Volkswagen's compact sedan is all set to debut at 2016 Auto Expo in February.

BMW launches Mini Countryman



NEW DELHI: BMW India launched the Mini Countryman 'hot' hatchback at Rs 36.5 lakh ex-showroom Delhi here on Wednesday.

MINI Countryman will be available at MINI dealerships as a completely built-up unit. The countryman will be available in two non-metallic colours and 9 metallic colours.

"MINI is a style icon for trend-setters and has established itself as a unique brand, associated with tradition and irresistible charm," said Philipp von Sahr, President,BMW Group India. "Selective design modifications for the exterior and interior along with innovative equipment features contribute to the more mature charisma and increased appeal of the new Mini Countryman. It is a perfect amalgamation of character, space and the 'go-kart' responsiveness."

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross launched


Maruti Suzuki has re-entered the premium segment by launching much awaited crossover S-Cross at Rs 8.34 ex-showroom Delhi. With the launch, India's largest carmaker is giving another shot to a segment where it has failed to garner decent number.


The car comes with two diesel engine options, DDiS 200 and DDiS 320. The the 1.3 litre DDiS 200 makes 90PS power and 200 Nm of torque whereas the 1.6 litre DDiS 320 delivers 120PS and a torque of 320 Nm. While the 1.3 litre claims a fuel efficiency of 23.65 kmpl, the 1.6 litre engine gives 22.07 kmpl.

Interestingly, the S-cross will only be available with a diesel engine and petrol variant not expected anytime soon.

150PS Abarth Punto to be launched by october



 Fiat wants to bring some serious sting in its offerings for the Indian market. The 595 Competizione launched today will be Abarth’s flagship model for India but it comes in as a CBU and will do duties of a halo product only – improve brand image and help push other models planned in the future. And the future for the petrolhead from Abarth’s stables looks quite bright. Two models are planned in the near future, the first one will be the Abarth Punto and it will be followed by the Abarth Avventura. While we don’t have any details of the Avventura yet, we can reveal a bit about the Abarth Punto.
The Abarth Punto will be powered by the same 1.4-litre T-Jet motor that powers the Linea, but the company has upped the power considerably to about 150PS. There’s about 200Nm of torque too making it the first hot hatch that one can buy without shredding your bank account. We’re being told that the Abarth Punto will be aggressively priced, say a slight bit more than you would shell out for a Linea T-Jet and that puts the Abarth Punto right up against aPolo TSI. The Punto however will come with a 5-speed manual transmission, appealing to the enthusiast. 

The Abarth Punto gets brake discs all round, stiffer suspension and lower ride height to complement the engine’s sporty character but it’s still not low enough to make it difficult to use in our road conditions. Fiat truly wants the Abarth Punto to appeal to a wide audience. 
There aren’t many changes to the exterior of the Abarth Punto. It’s got contrast orange lining in the grille, orange painted wing mirrors and a new set of Abarth alloy wheels. There is plenty of Abarth branding all around and no Fiat badge anywhere to distance it from the stock Fiat cars. The interior is same as the Punto Evo but the Abarth Punto gets racy steel pedals and the instrument cluster gets new Abarth colour inserts. Seat upholstery too gets matching stitch patterns.
